NUR-SULTAN, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- Kazakhstan's Central Election Commission (CEC) announced Tuesday that the ruling Nur Otan party grabbed 71.09 percent of votes and 76 seats in the parliamentary elections on Sunday.
The Ak Zhol Democratic Party and the People's Party of Kazakhstan secured 12 and 10 seats in the Majilis, the lower house of the parliament, winning 10.95 percent and 9.1 percent of votes respectively.
The Auyl Party and the Adal Party, however, did not pass the seven-percent threshold to enter parliament.
According to the CEC, a total of 7.5 million out of 11.9 million voters cast their ballots on Sunday, with the voter turnout at 63 percent.
The lower house consists of 107 deputies who serve a five-year term. Among them, 98 were elected directly from party lists during Sunday's election, while the remaining nine were elected on Monday by the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan, an advisory body representing the country's major ethnic groups.
