COLOMBO, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardena had sought the assistance of the foreign diplomatic missions based in Colombo to encourage foreign investors to invest in the island country, a statement from the Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.

During discussions held with the Honorary Consuls based in Colombo, Gunawardena said it was important for all countries to mutually assist each other to revive the world economy as a collective effort amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sri Lanka's Foreign Secretary Admiral Jayanath Colombage said the weather conditions of the previous year had a positive impact on the country's tea production, hence, Sri Lanka was in an advantageous position to market its quality tea worldwide.

Discussions were also held over the means of bringing investors to Sri Lanka during the period of the pandemic, including the opening of airports for tourists and its new foreign policy.

Sri Lanka is all set to re-open its international airports on Jan. 23 after airports were closed in March last year following the detection of the first local COVID-19 patient. Enditem
