ADDIS ABABA -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on the African continent reached 3,081,881 as of Tuesday, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said.
According to the continental disease control and prevention agency's Africa COVID-19 dashboard, the death toll related to the pandemic stood at 73,423 as of Tuesday afternoon.

YANGON -- Myanmar reported 551 more COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, bringing the tally in the country to 131,737, according to a release from the Ministry of Health and Sports.
A total of 20 more COVID-19 deaths were reported on Tuesday, bringing the death toll to 2,878 in total, the release said.

MANILA -- The Philippines has spent 2.66 trillion pesos (roughly 55.3 billion U.S. dollars) in 2020 for its direct response to the COVID-19 pandemic, accounting for 14.7 percent of the country's gross domestic product (GDP), the government finance chief revealed on Tuesday.
Philippine Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez said in a statement that the government's pandemic financial response in the past 10 months of 2020 included a large social protection program that provided emergency cash grants to low-income Philippine families and wage subsidies to workers in small businesses.
