JERUSALEM, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Israel's army said Wednesday it had fired artillery into the Gaza Strip after gunshots were fired from the Palestinian enclave at a military vehicle near the border fence.
The incident took place adjacent to the fence separating between Israel and Hamas-ruled Gaza. Bullets were fired from within the Strip at a military engineering vehicle, slightly damaging it, an Israeli military spokesperson said, without elaborating on the activity of the vehicle.
Shortly later, an Israeli tank targeted a Hamas military post in the southern Gaza Strip, the spokesperson said.
No injuries were immediately reported on both sides.
Sporadic rocket attacks and gunshots from Gaza have decreased over the past months amidst the coronavirus outbreak in Gaza and Israel.
Hamas says that Israel violates its truce obligations to ease a crippling blockade it has imposed on Gaza since 2007. Enditem
