TOKYO, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga declared a state of emergency over the COVID-19 pandemic in seven more prefectures including Osaka and Aichi on Wednesday, broadening the scope of the measure amid a resurgence of the pandemic across the country.

The newly declared prefectures, also including Tochigi to the north of Tokyo, Gifu in central Japan, Hyogo and Kyoto in the west, and Fukuoka to the southwest, will remain in the status through Feb. 7. (Japan-COVID-19-Emergency)

GENEVA -- The number of COVID-19 cases worldwide has surpassed 90 million, reaching 90,054,813 as of Wednesday, according to the latest numbers from the World Health Organization (WHO).

JAKARTA -- The number of casualties in the landslides hitting Indonesia's West Java province over the weekend climbed to 21 on Wednesday, while 19 others still remain missing, an official said.

A total of 25 persons survived the natural disaster which struck Cihanjuan village in Sumedang district, Seni Wulandari, a press officer at the Provincial Search and Rescue Agency told Xinhua.
