German energy company RWE to build first onshore wind farm in France

BERLIN, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- German energy company RWE will build its first onshore wind farm in France, the company announced on Thursday.
The onshore wind farm, located in the Centre-Val de Loire region, 250 kilometers south of Paris, is already under construction and would have a capacity of 26 megawatts, according to RWE.
The construction of the onshore wind farm would "highlight our ambition to further expand our position as one of the world's leading renewable energy companies," said Katja Wuenschel, chief operating officer for onshore wind and solar in Europe and Asia-Pacific at RWE Renewables GmbH, in a statement on Thursday.
Two additional onshore wind farms have been planned in France and another in Poland, with construction beginning in the first quarter of 2021, according to RWE. Total investments for the four onshore wind farms with a combined capacity of 76 megawatts would amount to around 95 million euros (around 115 million U.S. dollars).
The four wind farms result from the purchase of the European onshore wind and solar development business of Nordex SE, which the company acquired in November 2020.
RWE is planning to expand its portfolio to more than 13 gigawatts of net capacity by the end of 2022, with a net investment of five billion euros (about 6.1 billion U.S. dollars). Enditem
