BEIJING, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

MINSK -- Belarus reported 1,933 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, taking its total to 223,537, according to the country's health ministry.

There have been 2,176 new recoveries in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 206,676, the ministry added.

HANOI -- Vietnam recorded one new confirmed case of COVID-19 on Saturday, raising its total tally to 1,537 with 35 deaths, according to its Ministry of Health.

The new case is a foreign expert who recently entered the country from abroad and was quarantined upon arrival.

TBILISI -- Georgia reported 1,236 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, bringing its total to 247,025, said the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health.

Among the new cases, 485 were confirmed in the capital city of Tbilisi, the center said.

DOHA -- The Qatari Health Ministry on Saturday announced 204 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total number in the Gulf state to 147,089, official Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.

Meanwhile, 177 more recovered from the virus, bringing the overall recoveries to 143,612, while the death toll remained at 246 for the ninth consecutive day, according to a ministry statement quoted by QNA. Enditem
