TOKYO, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher on Tuesday as investors sought out bargains following the market's recent retreat after hitting 30-year highs last week.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 255.27 points, or 0.90 percent, from Monday to 28,497.48.
