MOSCOW, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- Search continued after an avalanche hit a ski resort in southern Russia, which has left at least one person dead and eight others injured, a local official said on Tuesday.

"Yesterday, when the avalanche descended on the ski slope of the Dombay resort, eight people were injured, one died, and four were found alive. Search and rescue operations continue," Khassan Timizhev, director general of the regional resort association, said Tuesday on social media Instagram.

The regional department of the Russian emergencies ministry announced Monday that two ski equipment rental points were covered and a cafe was damaged by the avalanche, which happened at the Dombay resort in Russia's Republic of Karachay-Cherkessia in the North Caucasus on Monday.

Up to 12 people were possibly buried under the snow when the avalanche happened, Russian media said. Enditem
