TOKYO -- Japan on Tuesday said it wants to see concrete proposals by South Korea in resolving a bilateral wartime dispute after South Korean President Moon Jae-in's remarks at a New Year's press conference.

"It's difficult to make a judgment solely based on the South Korean side's statement that it wants to resolve issues with Japan," Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi told a press conference on the matter. (Japan-S.Korea-Relations)

HONG KONG -- The construction of a new temporary hospital, conducted by engineers and workers from the Chinese mainland, will be completed here on Wednesday, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Carrie Lam said.

With the capacity of about 820 negative pressure beds, the hospital will greatly ease the pressure on Hong Kong's public health system amid the epidemic, Lam said in a letter to the Legislative Council. (Hong Kong-Mainland-COVID19)

JAKARTA -- The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 10,365 within one day to 927,380, with the death toll adding by 308 to 26,590, the country's Health Ministry said on Tuesday.

HONG KONG -- Asia-Pacific countries registered more COVID-19 cases on Tuesday as India registered 10,064 more daily infections, while some countries have ramped up or prepared for their vaccine campaign.

KABUL -- At least 118 people were killed in direct clashes and terrorist attacks in Afghanistan over the past 24 hours, a monitoring group said Tuesday.

"Over the past 24 hours, our team has documented 118 deaths, including three civilians, eight Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) members, and 107 Taliban militants," Reduction in Violence (RIV), an independent monitoring group, confirmed on its twitter account. MANILA -- The economic and trade cooperation between China and the Philippines had achieved tangible results in 2020, creating jobs for the Filipinos and effectively promoting its economic recovery, said Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian.
