S. Korean president's approval rating rises to 43.6 pct: poll

SEOUL, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- South Korean President Moon Jae-in's approval rating soared 5.7 percentage points over the week to 43.6 percent this week, a weekly poll showed Thursday.

It marked the highest in eight weeks as voters positively saw the president's New Year press conference earlier this week.

The negative assessment on Moon's conduct of state affairs dived 5.0 percentage points to 52.6 percent, according to the Realmeter survey.

Support for Moon's ruling Democratic Party climbed 2.0 percentage points from a week earlier to 32.9 percent this week.

The main conservative opposition People Power Party garnered 28.8 percent of approval score this week, down 3.1 percentage points from the previous week.

The minor center-right People's Party won 7.9 percent of support rating, followed by the minor center-right Open Democratic Party with 7.0 percent and the minor progressive Justice Party with 5.5 percent each.

The results were based on a poll of 1,510 voters conducted from Monday to Wednesday. It had plus and minus 2.5 percentage points in margin of error with a 95-percent confidence level. Enditem
