HONG KONG, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Asia-Pacific countries continue facing growing cases of COVID-19 as Indonesia reported 11,703 new cases on Thursday while India registered 15,223 new cases.

India's COVID-19 tally rose to 10,610,883 as 15,223 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours, said the latest data from the federal health ministry.

According to the official data, the death toll mounted to 152,869 with 151 new deaths.

There are still 192,308 active cases in the country, while 10,265,706 people have been discharged from hospitals after medical treatment.

A nationwide vaccination drive was kicked off last Saturday, and so far nearly 800,000 people have been administered the vaccine doses across the country.

The confirmed COVID-19 cases in Indonesia increased by 11,703 in the past 24 hours to 951,651, with the death toll adding by 346 to 27,203, the Health Ministry said.

According to the ministry, 9,087 more patients were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recoveries to 772,790.

The Department of Health (DOH) of the Philippines reported 1,783 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country to 507,717.

The death toll climbed to 10,116 after 74 more patients died from the viral disease, the DOH said. It added 500 more patients recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to 467,475.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in Sri Lanka surpassed the 55,000 mark after over 700 new patients were recorded, official statistics from the health ministry showed.

According to official figures, out of the 55,189 patients reported to date, 47,215 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, with the number of active cases standing at 7,700, and 274 deaths have been reported from the virus.

Sri Lanka is presently in the midst of the second wave of the pandemic after two new clusters were detected in October last year from a garment factory in Minuwangoda on the outskirts of capital Colombo and another from a fish market in Colombo.

South Korea reported 401 more cases of COVID-19 as of midnight Wednesday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 73,918.

The daily caseload stayed below 500 for four straight days after peaking at 1,240 on Dec. 25.

Sixteen more deaths were confirmed, leaving the death toll at 1,316. The total fatality rate stood at 1.78 percent.

Thailand confirmed 142 new COVID-19 cases, according to the Center for the COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).

Some 125 of the new cases were domestic infections while 17 others were imported cases, CCSA spokesman Taweesin Visanuyothin told a daily news briefing.

Thailand has so far confirmed 12,795 cases, with 9,842 patients having fully recovered and been released from hospitals while 2,882 others were still hospitalized. The death toll remained at 71, he said.

The Afghan Ministry of Public Health confirmed 80 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 54,483, including 6,668 active cases.

A total of 1,866 tests were conducted within the past 24 hours, with 80 being positive in 14 out of 34 Afghan provinces, the ministry said in a statement.

Seven patients died within the period, taking the death toll to 2,370, the statement added. Enditem
