HARARE, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Zimbabwe's power utility company, ZESA Holdings, has said power outages being experienced in the country are due to a technical fault at its Hwange Power Station.

In a statement on Thursday, ZESA said the technical fault will result in load curtailment of about 200 megawatts during evening peak periods, adding that restoration of service to optimum levels is currently underway.

"ZESA Holdings would like to advise its valued customers countywide that there is limited power supply in the national grid due to a technical fault at Hwange Power Station," the power utility said in a statement.

The Hwange Thermal Power Station, situated in the northwestern part of Zimbabwe, is the biggest power plant in the country, and has an installed capacity of 920 megawatts.

The power plant is current under expansion by China's Sinohydro, and the expansion project will add 600 megawatts into the national grid by 2022. Enditem
