ABUJA, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Four people were killed in attacks at different locations in Nigeria's northwestern state of Kaduna on Thursday, a local official said.

The attacks occurred in Chikun, Giwa and Igabi in Kaduna, Samuel Aruwan, the state's commissioner for internal security and home affairs, told reporters.

Two people were killed at Baranje village near Chikun and one was killed in both Giwa and Igabi, said Aruwan.

Following the attacks, Governor of Kaduna Nasir el-Rufai called for intensified ground and air patrols in the affected areas and urged security agencies to conduct diligent investigations into the incidents.

The northern part of Nigeria has witnessed a series of attacks by armed groups in recent months.

There have also been recurring incidents of livestock rustling and armed banditry in the region. Enditem
