BEIJING, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

BUENOS AIRES -- Argentina registered 8,362 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, bringing the national tally to 1,862,192, the health ministry said.

The ministry also reported 162 more deaths from the disease, bringing the nationwide death toll to 46,737.

ADDIS ABABA -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on the African continent reached 3,393,591 as of Saturday evening, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said.

According to the agency's data, the death toll related to the pandemic in Africa stood at 83,901 as of Saturday evening.

BEIJING -- The Chinese mainland on Saturday reported 80 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 65 locally transmitted ones and 15 arriving from outside the mainland, the National Health Commission said Sunday.

Of the locally transmitted cases, 29 were reported in Heilongjiang, 19 in Hebei, 12 in Jilin, three in Shanghai and two in Beijing, the commission said in its daily report.

PARIS -- France on Saturday reported 23,924 new cases of COVID-19 infection in a 24-hour span, raising the country's cumulative number of confirmed cases to 3,035,181, official data showed.

In the 24 hours, a further 230 people had succumbed to the disease in France, bringing the total death toll to 72,877.

TUNIS -- Tunisian Health Ministry on Saturday night reported 2,041 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total number of infections in the country to 195,314.

The death toll from the virus rose by 62 to 6,154 in the North African country, the Ministry said in a statement.

ANKARA -- Turkey's Health Ministry on Saturday confirmed 5,856 new COVID-19 cases, including 723 with symptoms, raising the total number in the country to 2,424,328.

The death toll from the virus in Turkey rose by 144 to 24,933, while the total recoveries climbed to 2,301,861 after 5,811 more recovered in the last 24 hours, according to the Ministry.

JERUSALEM -- Israel's Ministry of Health reported 4,550 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, bringing the total tally in the country to 593,578.

The death toll from the COVID-19 in Israel reached 4,326 after 60 new fatalities were added, while the number of patients in serious condition decreased from 1,182 to 1,171, out of 1,844 hospitalized patients. Enditem
