ANKARA, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- Turkey is exerting diplomatic efforts for the release of 15 Turkish crew members that were kidnapped after a pirate attack on a Liberian-flagged cargo ship off Nigeria, its foreign minister said on Sunday.

The ship is currently in Gabon waters and necessary contacts were initiated with all countries to rescue the kidnapped Turkish citizens, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu told the local NTV broadcaster.

The abducted ship does not belong to a Turkish company, but 19 of its personnel are Turkish nationals, he explained.

The ship named Mozart was attacked by naval thugs on Saturday about 180 miles off the coast of Lagos, Nigeria. The pirates kidnapped 15 from the ship, and one Azerbaijani citizen was reportedly killed during the fight. Enditem
