LISBON -- Portuguese incumbent President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa was re-elected in Sunday's presidential election, partial results showed.

With 98.87 percent of votes counted, Rebelo de Sousa won a landslide victory by garnering 61.3 percent of the votes, while former member of European Parliament Ana Gomes came second with 12.54 percent of the votes, ahead of right-wing party Chega candidate Andre Ventura, who came third with 11.89 percent of the votes, results showed. SAO PAULO -- Six people, including four soccer players and the president of the Brazilian club Palmas, were killed Sunday when the plane in which they were traveling crashed in the state of Tocantins.

The Palmas club, which plays in the Brazilian Championship Serie D, reported in a statement that the pilot and 32-year-old club president Lucas Meira died in the crash along with players Guilherme Noe, 28, Lucas Praxedes, 23, Ranule, 27, and Marcos Molinari, 23. (Brazil-Plane crash)

GENEVA -- More than 2,000 business, government and civil society leaders and 25 heads of state or government are set to meet virtually for the World Economic Forum Davos Agenda this week to tackle the fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic and address the urgent need for global cooperation.

BUJUMBURA -- An extraordinary congress of Burundi's ruling party on Sunday elected former Senate President Reverien Ndikuriyo to succeed the incumbent Burundian President Evariste Ndayishimiye as the new party leader.
