BEIJING, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

LOS ANGELES -- A person living in Placer County of the U.S. state of California died hours after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine, local authorities said Saturday, adding that an investigation is underway.

Placer County Public Health and the Placer County Sheriff-Coroner Division were recently notified of the death of an individual who tested positive for COVID-19 in late December, the Placer County Sheriff's Office said on its official Facebook page.

KIGALI -- Rwandan Minister of Health Daniel Ngamije on Sunday said Rwanda has not detected the new strain of COVID-19 that was reported in Britain and other countries.

Ngamije, who made the remarks during a live talk show about the COVID-19 status in Rwanda at the national broadcaster Rwanda Television, also revealed that about 95 percent of the COVID-19 patients in the country are under home-based care.

MEXICO CITY -- Mexico's President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador announced Sunday on Twitter that he has tested positive for COVID-19.

The president tweeted that at the moment, he is experiencing "mild symptoms" and currently undergoing treatment.

SEOUL -- South Korea reported 437 more cases of COVID-19 as of midnight Sunday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 75,521.

The daily caseload stayed below 500 for eight straight days, after peaking at 1,240 on Dec. 25.

BEIJING -- The Chinese mainland on Sunday reported 124 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 117 locally transmitted and seven arriving from outside the mainland, the National Health Commission said Monday.

Of the locally transmitted cases, 67 were reported in Jilin, 35 in Heilongjiang, 11 in Hebei, three in Beijing, and one in Shanghai, the commission said in its daily report.

ADDIS ABABA -- Ethiopia registered 469 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the nationwide tally to 133,767, the country's Ministry of Health said Sunday.

The death toll from COVID-19 in the country has reached 2,066 as of Sunday evening, after three new deaths were reported, the ministry said. Enditem
