U.S. dollar rises amid risk-averse sentiment

NEW YORK, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar increased in late trading on Monday as risk-averse mood returned to the market amid growing coronavirus concerns, bolstering demand for the safe-haven currency.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, was up 0.17 percent at 90.3900.

In late New York trading, the euro was down to 1.2139 U.S. dollars from 1.2166 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound was down to 1.3663 dollars from 1.3681 U.S. dollars in the previous session. The Australian dollar decreased to 0.7703 U.S. dollar from 0.7717 dollar.

The U.S. dollar bought 103.79 Japanese yen, lower than 103.83 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar increased to 0.8881 Swiss franc from 0.8860 Swiss franc, and it was up to 1.2749 Canadian dollars from 1.2728 Canadian dollars. Enditem
