SANTIAGO, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- Chile recorded 3,371 infections of COVID-19, as well as 17 deaths, in a day, bringing the total caseload to 709,888, with 18,040 accumulated deaths, the Ministry of Health reported Wednesday.
According to Minister of Health Enrique Paris, five Chilean regions have registered a decrease in COVID-19 cases over the last week.
Regarding vaccination against COVID-19, authorities reported that 56,759 people had received the first dose, while 10,315 had been given the second dose.
The government announced that Chile's mass vaccination campaign would begin in the first week of February.
Experts have expressed concern about the pandemic situation, calling for quarantines with state economic support and more COVID-19 testing. They have also advised that travel between regions be banned and that the country's borders be closed to foreign tourists. Enditem
