YANGON -- Myanmar's State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, President U Win Myint and other senior officials have been detained by the military, Myo Nyunt, spokesperson of the ruling National League for Democracy (NLD), told Xinhua.

"I received internal reports about our state counsellor and president being taken by the military. As far as I was informed, Shan State's Planning and Finance Minister U Soe Nyunt Lwin, Kayah state's NLD chairman Thaung Htay and some NLD representatives of the Ayeyarwady region's parliament have been detained," the spokesperson said.

"Two members of Central Executive Committee of the party were taken and I am also waiting to be detained as I was informed by our members that my turn will come shortly," he said.

CHICAGO -- One person died and another one suffered minor injuries in a shooting that happened in a mall in northern Wisconsin Sunday afternoon.

The shooter left the mall before police officers arrived and was still at large. Police were interviewing witnesses and following leads, said Grand Chute Police Officer Travis Waas. (US-Shooting)

MANILA -- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) said on Monday that it has allocated 25 million U.S. dollars to help the Philippine government purchase vaccines for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The Manila-based bank said the financing will come from the 125 million U.S. dollars Health System Enhancement to Address and Limit COVID-19 project, which ADB approved on Aug. 24, 2020.

SUVA -- One person died and five others went missing in Fiji as tropical cyclone Ana hit the South Pacific island nation.

According to Fiji Broadcasting Corporation (FBC) on Monday, a 49-year-old man drowned last Friday while five people, including a 3-year-old boy and two women, have gone missing during the severe weather caused by the tropical cyclone, which made landfall in Fiji on Saturday night.

Ana has caused extensive damages to Fiji. The main rivers in the nation have surged, and villages in the low-lying areas have been flooded. In some parts of Fiji, highways have been closed while power outages and landslides have been reported. (Fiji-Tropical Cyclone) Enditem
