KIEV, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine will obtain a 270-million-euro (323.76-million-U.S.-dollar) loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB) to reconstruct Flight Zone 2 of its largest international airport Boryspil, the government's press service said on its official website Wednesday.

The project envisages the reconstruction of Flight Zone 2, including a new runway with its radio and lighting equipment, taxiway systems, and emergency rescue station.

Ukraine's Infrastructure Minister Vladyslav Kryklii said the current runway of the Flight Zone 2, put into operation in 1971, exhausted its resources and cannot be restored as it was used with significant loads for a long time.

"Boryspil is Ukraine's largest international airport and provides about 60 percent of all passenger air traffic. It is the country's only international hub, and in order to strengthen its position, we must ensure the constant development of infrastructure and increase traffic," said Kryklii.

Kryklii noted that thanks to the assistance of international partners like the EIB, Ukraine would be able to qualitatively modernize the airport and increase passenger air traffic to 56 million passengers in 2040, nearly four times more than that in 2019. Enditem
