LOS ANGELES, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- The 27th Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards, given out by the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), announced its nominations in 15 film and TV categories on Thursday.

Korean-American comedy drama "Minari" and the movie adaptation of the late American playwright August Wilson's "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom" tied for the most film nominations with three each.

War drama "Da 5 Bloods" and historical legal drama "The Trial of the Chicago 7" also earned three nominations, but one of the nods was in the stunt ensemble category.

"Ma Rainey's Black Bottom," "Da 5 Bloods" and "The Trial of the Chicago 7" are Netflix releases.

"Da 5 Bloods," "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom," "Minari," "One Night in Miami" and "The Trial of the Chicago 7" will compete for the top prize of SAG Awards - the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

Two-time Oscar winner Frances McDormand, who plays a woman who loses everything in a recession and embarks on a journey through the American West in Chinese female director Chloe Zhao's feature film "Nomadland," will compete against Amy Adams ("Hillbilly Elegy"), Viola Davis ("Ma Rainey's Black Bottom"), Vanessa Kirby ("Pieces of a Woman") and Carey Mulligan ("Promising Young Woman") for the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role.

Maria Bakalova ("Borat Subsequent Moviefilm"), Glenn Close ("Hillbilly Elegy"), Olivia Colman ("The Father"), Youn Yuh-Jung ("Minari") and Helena Zengel ("News of the World") are nominees for the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role.

The late African American actor Chadwick Boseman received two posthumous nominations for his lead performance in "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom" and his supporting role in "Da 5 Bloods." Boseman died of cancer at 43 in last August.

Boseman, Riz Ahmed ("Sound of Metal"), Anthony Hopkins ("The Father"), Gary Oldman ("Mank") and Steven Yeun ("Minari") were nominated for the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role. In the race for the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role, he will compete with Sacha Baron Cohen ("The Trial of the Chicago 7"), Daniel Kaluuya ("Judas and the Black Messiah"), Jared Leto ("The Little Things") and Leslie Odom, Jr. ("One Night in Miami").

This year's nominations for the Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture include "Da 5 Bloods," "News of the World," "The Trial of the Chicago 7" "Wonder Woman 1984" and Disney's China-set live-action film "Mulan."

Netflix dominates the SAG Awards nominations on both the film and TV sides this year with the most 13 and 17 honors respectively.

Netflix's "The Crown" and POP TV's "Schitt's Creek" led the nominations on the TV side with five nods each, followed by Netflix's "Dead to Me" with three.

"The Crown" and the other two Netflix's TV series, "Bridgerton" and "Ozark," will compete for the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series against AMC series "Better Call Saul" and HBO Max's "Lovecraft Country."

"Dead to me," HBO Max's "The Flight Attendant," Hulu's "The Great," "Schitt's Creek" and Apple TV+'s "Ted Lasso" will stand out for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.

Last year, South Korean black comedy thriller "Parasite" nabbed top film award while top TV awards went to "The Crown" and "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel."

After being delayed twice due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 27th SAG Awards is scheduled to take place on April 4. The event had been pushed back to March 14 initially, but the SAG-AFTRA announced last month to postpone it to April to avoid a conflict with the rescheduled Grammy Awards.

Of the top industry honors presented to actors, only the SAG Awards are selected entirely by performers' peers in SAG-AFTRA, which represents approximately 160,000 film and television actors, journalists, artists and other media professionals.

The SAG awards, which made its debut in 1995, focus on both individual performances as well as ensemble works in films and TV series. Generally considered a strong predictor of who will pick up Oscar nominations for performing, the SAG awards has become one of Hollywood awards season's premier events. Enditem
