SOFIA, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) on Friday confirmed two new outbreaks in the country of the highly pathogenic avian influenza (bird flu) Type A virus in the past three days.

The virus was detected on two duck farms belonging to the same owner in the town of Slavyanovo, some 190 km northeast of Sofia, the agency said on its website.

The two affected poultry farms are not physically connected with the farm in the same town, where an outbreak of the same virus was confirmed on Wednesday, the statement said.

All measures would be taken to eradicate the outbreaks, it said. The 166,000 ducks on the two farms would be culled.

The latest outbreak of the disease in Bulgaria before this week's cases was registered in June 2020, according to the BFSA. Enditem
