MOSCOW -- Russia's trade surplus nosedived by 41.4 percent year on year to 104.5 billion U.S. dollars in 2020, the Russian Federal Customs Service said in a statement on Monday.

Russia's foreign trade turnover decreased by 15.2 percent year on year to 571.9 billion U.S. dollars, it said. (Russia-Trade Surplus)

ROME -- The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) announced Monday that it had received 40 million euros (48.2 million U.S. dollars) from Germany to help make farmers and fishers more resilient against threats from major events like the coronavirus pandemic and extreme weather.

The funding, which was provided by KfW, Germany's main development bank, will be used to "build the resilience of resource-poor producers, pastoralists and fishers in three of the world's most food-insecure countries." (Italy-FAO)

MEXICO CITY -- Mexico's economy could grow as much as 5 percent in 2021 as it recovers from the impact of the novel coronavirus pandemic, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said on Monday.

In his first public appearance since contracting the novel coronavirus disease and quarantining, the president underscored his administration's belief that lifting people out of poverty is good for the economy. (Mexico-Economy)

CAIRO -- Egypt's New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) signed an agreement on Monday with China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) to build five residential skyscrapers in New Alamein City at Egypt's Mediterranean northern coast.

The virtual signing ceremony was witnessed by Egyptian Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Essam el-Gazzar, Egyptian Ambassador to China Mohamed El Badry, and Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Liao Liqiang, state-run Ahram daily reported. (Egypt-China-Skyscrapers) Enditem
