Live COVID-19 updates: Russia reports 14,185 new cases

BEIJING, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

MOSCOW -- Russia registered 14,185 more COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, down from 14,861 the day before, the country's COVID-19 response center said Sunday.

The national tally has thus increased to 4,071,883 with 80,126 deaths and 3,593,101 recoveries, the center said.

KABUL -- Afghanistan on Sunday reported 22 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases after health authorities conducted 1,012 tests within a day, bringing the number of total cases to 55,514, the country's Ministry of Public Health said.

Meanwhile, three people recovered during the past 24 hours, taking the overall number of recoveries to 48,395, while no new deaths were reported, and the death toll stands at 2,427, the ministry confirmed in a statement.

ULAN BATOR -- Mongolia reported 58 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 2,351, the country's National Center for Communicable Diseases (NCCD) said Sunday.

"A total of 38,450 polymerase chain reaction tests were conducted across the country yesterday, and 58 of them were positive," Amarjargal Ambaselmaa, head of the surveillance department of the NCCD, told a daily press conference.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong's Center for Health Protection (CHP) reported 12 additional confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, marking the second day in a row with fewer than 20 daily infections.

The new cases included 10 local infections, of which three had unknown origins, according to a CHP press briefing. The total tally in Hong Kong stood at 10,779.

NEW DELHI -- More than 8.2 million beneficiaries have been vaccinated against COVID-19 in India till Sunday, the federal health ministry said.

An official statement issued by the federal health ministry said "8,263,858 beneficiaries have been vaccinated through 172,852 sessions, as per the provisional report till 08:00 hours today. These include 5,984,018 health care workers (1st dose), 23,628 health care workers (2nd dose) and 22,56,212 first line workers (1st dose)."

KAMPALA -- Uganda's Ministry of Health said late Saturday that the country's cumulative number of COVID-19 cases has surpassed the 40,000 mark after 40 new cases were recorded in the past 24 hours.

According to the ministry, total cases now stand at 40,019 since Uganda recorded its first case on March 21, 2020. Enditem
