JAKARTA -- At least 12 people have died in a landslide that hit a rural part of the Indonesian province of East Java on Sunday, while seven others remain missing, according to the latest figures released by the country's disaster mitigation agency on Wednesday.

TOKYO -- Japan on Wednesday began administering its first COVID-19 vaccinations to medical workers, with the first inoculations using the vaccine developed by U.S. pharmaceutical firm Pfizer and German partner BioNTech taking place at the National Hospital Organization Tokyo Medical Center.

Around 40,000 medical workers will receive the first jabs, double the number initially planned, with 12 of around 800 workers at the medical center in the capital first to be vaccinated on Wednesday and reporting no immediate side effects. (Japan-COVID-19 Vaccine)

DHAKA -- Bangladesh's highest economic policy-making body has approved a mega highway project worth 169.18 billion taka (about 2 billion U.S. dollars) for improved connectivity.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen has signed a sub-decree on establishing the National Internet Gateway (NIG) with the aim of facilitating and managing online traffic.

The sub-decree, signed on Tuesday and released to the media on Wednesday, said a NIG operator, which will be appointed by the government, will set up a one-stop system to bring all overseas internet connections through a single point. (Cambodia-Sub-Decree-Internet)

SYDNEY -- More than 35,000 frontline staff in the Australian state of New South Wales (NSW) will be among the first in the country to receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine from Feb. 22.
