TOKYO -- Japan on Wednesday confirmed 1,447 new COVID-19 infections as the country began its vaccination campaign with first jabs administered to medical workers in the capital Tokyo.

The nation's cumulative total of infections has risen to 421,211, with 79 newly reported deaths bringing the death toll to 7,236, according to the latest figures. (Japan-COVID-19)

NEW DELHI -- A total of 50 bodies have been retrieved from the canal where a bus carrying around 60 passengers fell on Tuesday in India's Madhya Pradesh, a senior district administration official confirmed on Wednesday.

At least two persons are still said to be missing.

The ill-fated bus fell in the 6-meter-deep Bansagar canal in Sidhi district of the state, around 493 km east of state capital Bhopal. (India-Bus Accident)

DHAKA -- Bangladesh reported 443 new COVID-19 cases and 16 more deaths on Wednesday, taking the tally to 541,877 and death toll to 8,314, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.

MACAO -- About 2,000 people in the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) have been inoculated with mainland-made COVID-19 vaccines as of 4:00 p.m. local time Wednesday, according to the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Center of Macao.

JAKARTA -- The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia increased by 9,687 in the past 24 hours to 1,243,646, with the death toll adding by 192 to 33,788, the Health Ministry said on Wednesday.
