RIO DE JANEIRO, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- Two-time Brazilian Serie A champions Botafogo have named veteran manager Marcelo Chamusca as their head coach for the 2021 season.

The 54-year-old replaces Eduardo Barroca, who was sacked on February 6 after the club's relegation to Brazilian football's second tier.

"Welcome to [Brazil's] most traditional club," Botafogo said in a social media post late on Friday.

Chamusca, who was an assistant coach at Botafogo in 2005, has been out of work since parting ways with Fortaleza on January 7.

He will not officially take charge of the Rio de Janeiro side until March. Lucio Flavio will continue to lead the club on an interim basis until the end of the current Serie A season on February 25. Enditem
