KUWAIT CITY, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait reported on Saturday 862 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 183,322.

The Kuwaiti Health Ministry also announced five more deaths, taking the death toll to 1,039.

The tally of recoveries in Kuwait rose by 934 to 171,260, while 11,023 coronavirus-related patients were receiving treatment, it said.

Kuwait's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said on Friday that as of Sunday, Feb. 21, arrivals coming from high-risk countries, through direct flights, will have to quarantine in a local hotel in Kuwait for 14 days at their own cost.

Those arriving from other countries will have to quarantine in a local hotel for seven days at their own expenses and isolate themselves for another seven days at their homes, the DGCA said in a statement.

Kuwait has banned the entry of non-Kuwaitis to the country for two weeks starting from Feb. 7, to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

The Kuwaiti government also decided to suspend all commercial activities between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. local time, excluding pharmacies and grocery shops, for up to a month.

All activities in Kuwaiti sports clubs, gyms, salons, and spa centers are also suspended.

In addition, all celebrations, including the National Day celebration later this month, are prohibited. Businesses and individuals found in breach of government-imposed COVID-19 measures during the National Day holidays will face strict penalties. Enditem
