WASHINGTON -- U.S. President Joe Biden has declared a major disaster in the southern U.S. state of Texas so as to allow the federal government to provide more resources and assistance to the state hit heavily by severe winter storms, the White House said on Saturday.

With the declaration on Friday, Biden "ordered federal assistance to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by severe winter storms beginning on February 11, 2021, and continuing," the White House said in a written statement. (US-Storm-Disaster Declaration)

LOS ANGELES -- A United Airlines flight with more than 200 people on board made a safe emergency landing at Denver International Airport on Saturday after the right engine exploded in the air. No injuries were reported.

"Flight 328 from Denver to Honolulu experienced an engine failure shortly after departure, returned safely to Denver and was met by emergency crews as a precaution," a statement issued by the airline company said. (US-Flight-Emergency Landing)

HOUSTON -- A person went into a gun store and shooting range in a New Orleans suburb in the U.S. state of Louisiana on Saturday and shot two people dead.
