BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- Brunei became the only Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member country to post an increase in car sales from January to November last year, latest statistics from the ASEAN Automotive Federation (AAF) showed.

The nation's car sales rose 14.2 percent to 12,505 in the first 11 months in 2020 from 10,949 units in the same period in 2019, local daily the Borneo Bulletin quoted the AAF data as reporting on Sunday.

Even without the December sales figure, Brunei's car sale still recorded a 5-percent growth.

According to the report, economic activities across the region were severely disrupted by business and social lockdowns imposed to help curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. The automobile industry was one of the worst-affected markets in the region last year.

Motor vehicles sold in ASEAN declined 29 percent to 2.45 million units from January till November 2020 from 3.46 million units in the previous year. Enditem
