KUWAIT CITY, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait reported on Sunday 768 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 184,090.

The Kuwaiti Health Ministry also announced five more deaths, taking the death toll to 1,044.

The tally of recoveries in Kuwait rose by 967 to 172,227, while 10,819 coronavirus-related patients were receiving treatment, it said.

On Saturday, Kuwait's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) decided to extend a ban on entry of non-Kuwaiti travelers to the country until further notice.

Based on the health authorities' instructions and after evaluating the global coronavirus situation, the ban on the entry of non-Kuwaiti passengers will remain effective until further notice, the DGCA said in a press release.

On Feb. 3, the Kuwaiti government decided to ban the entry of non-Kuwaitis to the country for two weeks starting from Feb. 7, to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

The Kuwaiti government also decided to suspend all commercial activities between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. local time, excluding pharmacies and grocery shops, for up to a month.

All activities in Kuwaiti sports clubs, gyms, salons, and spa centers are also suspended.

In addition, all celebrations, including the National Day celebration later this month, are prohibited. Businesses and individuals found in breach of government-imposed COVID-19 measures during the National Day holidays will face strict penalties. Enditem
