BEIJING, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

BUENOS AIRES -- The Argentine government officially approved the emergency use of an inactivated COVID-19 vaccine developed by Chinese pharmaceutical firm Sinopharm, according to a resolution signed Sunday by the country's Minister of Health Carla Vizzotti.

The resolution was signed by Vizzotti after the National Administration of Medicines, Food and Medical Technology advised the Ministry of Health to include the Sinopharm vaccine into the national inoculation plan against COVID-19.

LOS ANGELES -- Three Navy sailors aboard the U.S. aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt, who tested positive for COVID-19, were flown to Naval Base Guam Sunday, The Guam Daily Post reported.

Guam Governor Lou Leon Guerrero was quoted as saying that she was informed ahead of time and agreed with moving the sailors off the battleship to seek medical care here on Guam.

NEW DELHI -- India's COVID-19 tally crossed the 11-million mark, reaching 11,005,850 on Monday as 14,199 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours, said the latest data from the federal health ministry.

According to the official data, the death toll mounted to 156,385 as 83 COVID-19 patients died since Sunday morning.

LISBON -- Portugal registered on Sunday another 1,186 new cases of COVID-19, the lowest number of new daily cases in the last four months, with the total infections now standing at 797,525, according to the country's health authorities.

Sixty-five deaths attributed to COVID-19 were reported in the past 24 hours, raising the country's death toll to 15,962, according to the epidemiological bulletin released by the Portuguese Directorate-General for Health.

MANILA -- The Philippines has officially approved the emergency use of China's Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine, the country's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said on Monday.

China's Sinovac Biotech is the third vaccine maker that was given the green light by the FDA.

RIO DE JANEIRO -- Brazil registered 527 deaths from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 246,504, the Ministry of Health reported on Sunday.

The ministry also reported 29,026 more cases, bringing the national count to 10,168,174.

ACCRA -- With a total of 598 new cases confirmed on Sunday, Ghana's total COVID-19 cases have reached 80,253, said the Ghana Health Service.

According to the government agency, the country has so far registered 577 COVID-19-related deaths, while the number of active cases stands at 6,658. Enditem
