Live COVID-19 updates: Russia's daily COVID-19 cases drop to lowest since October

BEIJING, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

MOSCOW -- Russia registered 11,823 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, the lowest number of daily infections since October, bringing the nationwide tally to 4,189,153, said the official monitoring and response center on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the national death toll increased by 417 to 84,047. Another 12,943 patients recovered from the disease over the previous day, with total recoveries now reaching 3,739,344.

SOFIA -- Bulgaria confirmed 1,925 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the country's total to 238,591, the health ministry reported on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 death toll rose by 79 to 9,933, and a total of 777 people recovered from the disease during the same period, raising the country's total recoveries to 201,029, the ministry said.

ULAN BATOR -- Mongolia launched a COVID-19 vaccination campaign across the country on Tuesday, with frontline workers in the health and security sectors receiving the first jabs.

Mongolian Prime Minister Luvsannamsrai Oyun-Erdene became the first person vaccinated in the country against the COVID-19, and his jab was televised to encourage citizens to accept inoculation. Enditem
