HONG KONG, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- The COVID-19 pandemic continued to spread in Asia-Pacific countries as India's tally reached 11,016,434 on Tuesday while Indonesia reported 9,775 new cases.

India's COVID-19 tally rose to 11,016,434 as 10,584 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours, said the latest data from the federal health ministry.

According to the official data, the death toll mounted to 156,463 with 78 new deaths.

There are 147,306 active cases in the country, while 10,712,665 people have been discharged from hospitals after medical treatment.

The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 9,775 within one day to 1,298,608, with the death toll adding by 323 to 35,014, the health ministry said.

According to the ministry, 7,996 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 1,104,990.

Malaysia's health ministry reported 2,468 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Southeast Asian country, bringing its total tally to 288,229.

Another 14 deaths were recorded, bringing the country's COVID-19 death toll to 1,076.

An additional 4,055 patients were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recoveries from the coronavirus epidemic in Malaysia to 256,678, or 89.1 percent of all cases.

Of the existing 30,475 active cases, 196 are being held in intensive care units and 92 of those in need of assisted breathing.

The Department of Health (DOH) of the Philippines reported 1,414 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country to 564,865.

The death toll climbed to 12,107 after 16 more patients died from the viral disease, the DOH said, adding that 72 more patients recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to 522,941.

South Korea reported 357 more cases of COVID-19 as of midnight Monday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 87,681.

The daily caseload was up from 332 in the previous day, but it stayed below 400 for two straight days.

Eleven more deaths were confirmed, leaving the death toll at 1,573. The total fatality rate stood at 1.79 percent.

Thailand recorded 95 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, marking the fourth consecutive day with the number of daily cases below 100, according to its Center for the COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).

Thailand has so far reported 25,599 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 22,885 of which were domestic cases.

So far, 24,446 patients have fully recovered from the coronavirus epidemic in the Southeast Asian country. Currently, 1,070 patients are being treated in hospitals, and the COVID-19 death toll stands at 83 in Thailand.

Cambodia reported 25 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total number of infections in the kingdom to 593, said a Ministry of Health (MoH) statement.

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen on Monday ordered the closure of all schools in capital Phnom Penh and southern Kandal province for two weeks in a bid to curb the spread of the virus into schools.

The Southeast Asian nation has registered a total of 593 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date, with zero deaths and 475 recoveries, the MoH said. Enditem
