BANGKOK/YANGON, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- The Thai foreign ministry confirmed Thursday that Myanmar foreign minister U Wunna Maung Lwin visited Bangkok on Wednesday, the first visit abroad by a senior Myanmar official after a one-year state of emergency was declared in Myanmar.
The visit was "a good opportunity for the Thai side to hear directly from the Myanmar side on the various issues that the latter attaches importance to, and for both sides to engage in a conversation about issues that are important for the peoples on both sides of the border," spokesman of the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs Tanee Sangrat told a press conference.
The two sides exchanged views on issues including public health cooperation to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and cooperation on issues concerning Myanmar migrant workers, Tanee said, reiterating Thailand's firm support for continued peace and stability in Myanmar.
Tanee also confirmed that a three-way meeting was held among Thai Deputy Prime Minister Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar U Wunna Maung Lwin and Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, who was also in Bangkok.
The Myanmar and Thai sides exchanged views on matters pertaining to sustaining the ongoing mutually beneficial cooperation between Myanmar and Thailand, maintenance of security and stability along the border, attainment of legal status and ensuring rights of Myanmar workers in Thailand, according to a release from Myanmar's Ministry of Information on Thursday.
