NEW DELHI, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- The local government in the Indian capital Delhi on Thursday ordered all its departments, autonomous bodies and grantee institutions to replace existing fleet of hired conventional fuel vehicles with electric vehicles in the national capital territory (NCT) within six months.
The order was issued by the finance department of the Delhi government.
Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia shared the order on his social media account and said that over 2,000 cars will be impacted by the decision.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal hailed the new directive, saying it will go a long way in curbing pollution in Delhi.
Earlier this month, the Delhi government launched a mass awareness campaign to promote electric vehicles. Enditem
