BEIJING, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

BANGKOK -- Thailand on Friday recorded 45 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 37 of them being domestic cases, according to a report of the Center for the COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).

Of Friday's new cases, eight were reported in people returning from abroad and testing positive for the coronavirus in Thailand, the CCSA report said.

SANTIAGO -- Chile on Thursday received another shipment of anti-COVID-19 CoronaVac vaccines from Chinese pharmaceutical firm Sinovac, following two earlier batches that arrived on Jan. 28 and 31.

Chile's President Sebastian Pinera, accompanied by his health and science ministers, was on hand to receive the vaccines at the airport in the capital Santiago.

BUENOS AIRES -- Argentina received the first batch of vaccines from Chinese pharmaceutical firm Sinopharm on Thursday night.

Chief of the Cabinet of Ministers Santiago Cafiero was on hand to receive the shipment at the Ezeiza International Airport on the southern outskirts of the capital Buenos Aires.

SYDNEY -- Australia's second largest city Melbourne and the whole state of Victoria where it locates will further relax COVID-19 restrictions from midnight Friday despite that the state still recorded two locally acquired cases on the same day.

According to the state government, masks will only be required on public transport, in rideshare vehicles and taxis, in sensitive settings such as aged care facilities, and in some larger retail settings including indoor shopping centers, supermarkets, department stores and indoor markets.

BOGOTA -- Colombian President Ivan Duque announced a decision Thursday night to extend a declared national health emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic by three more months, as the vaccination drive entered its eighth day.

"On Feb. 28, the health emergency in our country will expire. Today I want to inform you, with (Health and Social Protection) Minister Fernando Ruiz and the team of experts, we have decided to extend the concept of the health emergency until May 31," Duque said.

NEW DELHI -- India's COVID-19 tally rose to 11,063,491 on Friday as 16,577 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours, said the latest data from the federal health ministry.
