NEW DELHI, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- One person was killed and a firefighter suffered burn injuries Saturday after a fire broke out inside a factory in the Indian capital, police said.

The fire broke out at the Pratap Nagar locality of Delhi.

"We are being told a charred body has been recovered from the first floor of the factory and a fireman suffered burns while trying to contain the blaze," a police official said. "The blaze has been doused."

According to officials, the distress call was reported at around 3:47 a.m. local time.

Authorities rushed 28 fire tenders to the spot.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known. Locals told police that a gas cylinder exploded during the fire.

Police suspect short circuit as a reason for the devastating fire.

Reports said lipstick, nail polish and toys were manufactured inside the factory.

Officials said the plastic material and chemicals stored in the factory caught the fire.

Police have registered a case and ordered an investigation into the blaze. Enditem
