ACCRA, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- The Executive Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the decision to introduce a new cup competition for the country's women's premier league effective this season.

According to the GFA, the competition will be between teams who finish in the top four in the premier league with the first two teams selected from each of the two zones at the end of the season.

"The rationale is to give clubs more games outside the league campaign to make them competitive and to add to the limited number of games that are played in the course of the season. The mini-tournament also aims to give an additional incentive to clubs and players to prepare them for the new season," the FA said on its official website Friday.

Currently, the women's premier league clubs in Ghana play a minimum of 14 matches during the season and a maximum of five games in the FA Cup, falling short of the required number of games approved by the world soccer governing body FIFA. Enditem
