BEIJING, March 1 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

MANILA -- The Philippines launched its coronavirus vaccination campaign on Monday, less than a day after the arrival of the Sinovac vaccine CoronaVac donated by China.

Simultaneous vaccination took place in hospitals in Metro Manila on Monday morning.

The Philippines' Department of Health said the Sinovac vaccines "will also be rolled out in other parts of the country in the coming days."

CANBERRA -- The Australian government has established a "myth-busting unit" to address coronavirus vaccine misinformation.

Greg Hunt, the minister for Health, revealed that the unit, a joint endeavor between the Departments of Health and Home Affairs, was "quietly" established in 2020 amid concerns over false vaccine information spreading rapidly on social media.

RIO DE JANEIRO -- Brazil reported 34,027 new COVID-19 cases and 721 related deaths on Sunday, taking the national tally of confirmed cases to and death toll to 254,942, the Ministry of Health said.

Brazil is ranked second worldwide after the United States in terms of the number of deaths from COVID-19 and third in terms of the number of confirmed cases, after the United States and India.

PARIS -- France registered 19,952 new coronavirus infection cases and 122 related deaths in the past 24 hours, according to figures released by the Public Health Agency on Sunday.

The cumulative number of coronavirus cases in France now stands at 3,755,968, and the total number of fatalities at 86,454 since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country. Enditem
