MANILA -- The Philippines launched its COVID-19 vaccination drive on Monday, less than a day after the arrival of a batch of the Sinovac vaccine CoronaVac donated by China.

Philippine General Hospital (PGH) Director Gerardo Legaspi, a renowned neurosurgeon, was the first Filipino to receive the Sinovac's CoronaVac vaccine.

SEOUL -- South Korean President Moon Jae-in's approval rating rose 1.2 percentage points over the week to 41.8 percent last week, a weekly poll showed Monday.

The negative assessment on Moon's conduct of state affairs slipped 2.5 percentage points to 53.6 percent last week, according to the Realmeter survey.

NEW DELHI -- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi took his first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, Covaxin, on Monday.

The Covaxin vaccine is manufactured by "Bharat Biotech" company.

TOKYO -- A fire at a residential area in Koto Ward in the Japanese capital of Tokyo on Monday morning left two people injured and a number of houses damaged.

Firefighters received an emergency call at around 5:00 a.m. local time reporting a fire at an unoccupied house located in Ojima area of Koto Ward. About five hours later the blaze was said to have been subdued. (Japan-Fire-Toll)

CANBERRA -- The Australian government has established a "myth-busting unit" to address coronavirus vaccine misinformation.

Greg Hunt, the minister for Health, revealed that the unit, a joint endeavor between the Departments of Health and Home Affairs, was "quietly" established in 2020 amid concerns over false vaccine information spreading rapidly on social media.
