KIEV, March 1 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine's Minister of Health Maxym Stepanov was vaccinated against COVID-19 with AstraZeneca vaccine, the health ministry's press service reported on Monday.

"Today, I made appropriate changes to the National Vaccination Plan, which allowed the Minister of Health and the President of Ukraine to vaccinate publicly to dispel the fears that arise around this process... Today I have proved by my own example that the vaccine received by Ukraine is absolutely safe and effective," Stepanov said.

As of March 1, 3,141 people were vaccinated against COVID-19 since the beginning of the vaccination process, which started in Ukraine on Feb. 24.

On Feb. 23, 500,000 doses of Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine arrived in Ukraine. The Ministry of Health expects to receive another 1.5 million doses of this vaccine by March 31 and 117,000 doses of Pfizer vaccine in early March as part of the COVAX initiative.

A total of 1,352,134 COVID-19 cases and 26,050 deaths have been registered in Ukraine as of Monday, while 1,171,724 patients have recovered, according to the health authorities. Enditem
