MOSCOW -- Russia will respond to the recent personal sanctions imposed by the European Union over the jailing of Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said Monday.

UNITED NATIONS -- United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said the outcome of Monday's high-level pledging conference for Yemen is disappointing.

Pledges announced a total of about 1.7 billion U.S. dollars -- less than last year's pledges and 1 billion dollars less than what was pledged at the conference in 2019, said Guterres in a statement. (UN-Yemen-Pledges)

WASHINGTON -- Director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Rochelle Walensky warned Monday the country is at risk of losing its recent progress in the battle against COVID-19 if states are rolling back health measures.

JERUSALEM -- The first ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Israel arrived on Monday to start his term, about six months after the two countries established official ties.
