S. Korea's industrial output falls 0.6 pct in January

SEOUL, March 2 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's industrial output fell 0.6 percent in January from a month earlier, marking the first decline in eight months, statistical office data showed Tuesday.

Production in the mining and manufacturing industry shrank 1.6 percent in January from the prior month, according to Statistics Korea. It was the first fall in three months.

Output in the services industry shed 0.2 percent in January on a monthly basis, after sliding 1.1 percent in the prior month.

Retail sale, which reflects private consumption, gained 1.6 percent in January, after rising 0.1 percent in the previous month.

Facility investment grew 6.2 percent in the month, and the cyclical variation factor for leading economic indicators continued to rise for the eighth consecutive month. Enditem
