KHOST, Afghanistan, March 2 (Xinhua) -- A water canal to irrigate 400 acres of land outside Khost city, the capital of Afghan eastern Khost province has been constructed, said a statement of the Ministry for Rural Rehabilitation and Development released here on Tuesday.
Constructed at a cost of 1.7 million afghanis (1 U.S. dollar equals 77.20 afghanis) and funded by the ministry, the 376-meter long canal would facilitate the farmers to irrigate 400 acres of land to plant a variety of vegetables and crops.
Similarly, with a fund provided by the ministry, a water canal constructed recently outside Tirin Kot, the capital of the southern Uruzgan province that provides potable water to 80 families, enabling the villagers to irrigate their farmlands, according to the statement of the ministry.
The government, in addition to engaging in fighting with the insurgent groups, would do its best to provide necessary services to the people, the statement added. Enditem
