LUANDA, March 3 (Xinhua) -- Angola rolled out its mass vaccination against COVID-19 on Tuesday, with a 71-year-old nurse receiving the country's first jab.

Angola received 624,000 doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine on Tuesday, as part of the COVAX initiative backed by the World Health Organization.

With this batch, Angola kicked off its first phase of the vaccination among patients with comorbidity, teachers, health professionals, the elderly and other vulnerable groups, according to the Ministry of Health.

The southern African country plans to vaccinate 53 percent of its population against COVID-19 in two phases, said Minister of Health Silvia Lutucuta this week. Enditem
