TOKYO, March 4 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks fell Thursday morning, following Wall Street's weak lead overnight, as investor sentiment was dented by recent market volatility amid a sharp rise in U.S. borrowing costs.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 554.69 points, or 1.88 percent, from Wednesday to 29,004.41.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 23.95 points, or 1.26 percent, at 1,880.59.

Nonferrous metal, information and communication and electric appliance issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break. Enditem
