BEIJING, March 6 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

LONDON -- Another 5,947 people in Britain have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 4,207,304, according to official figures released Friday.

The country also reported another 236 coronavirus-related fatalities, taking the national death toll to 124,261. These figures only include the deaths of people who died within 28 days of their first positive test.

PARIS -- The number of people who tested positive for COVID-19 in France increased by 23,507 in the past 24 hours, while another 439 patients died, according to figures released by health authorities on Friday.

This daily count, down from 25,279 on Thursday, has brought the country's accumulative total of infections to 3,859,102. The total of deaths reached 88,274.

ANKARA -- Turkey on Friday reported 11,302 new COVID-19 infections, including 698 symptomatic patients, taking its caseload to 2,757,460, according to the country's health ministry.

The death toll rose by 62 to 28,901, while the tally of recoveries climbed to 2,608,848 after 7,711 more cases recovered in the last 24 hours.

QUITO -- Ecuador registered 1,335 new cases of the novel coronavirus disease and 33 more patient deaths in the past 24 hours, raising the total caseload to 291,070 and the death toll to 11,225, the Ministry of Health said Friday.

Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno announced the government developed a website called planvacunarse.ec, which means "vaccination plan", with "the necessary information on vaccination against COVID-19 in the country."

TUNIS -- Tunisian Health Ministry on Friday reported 713 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total number of infections in the country to 236,356.

The death toll from the virus rose by 24 to 8,130, the ministry said in a statement.

BAGHDAD -- The Iraqi Ministry of Health reported on Friday 5,127 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total nationwide infections to 719,121.

It also reported 30 new deaths, raising the death toll from the infectious virus to 13,537, while the total recoveries in Iraq climbed by 3,134 to 653,149.

SANTIAGO -- The Chilean Health Ministry on Friday reported 5,325 new COVID-19 infections in 24 hours, the highest figure since June, bringing the accumulated cases to 845,450, along with another 90 deaths for a total of 20,928.

According to the ministry's daily report, 796,791 patients have recovered from the disease so far, while 27,317 remain active.

BEIRUT -- Lebanon registered on Friday 3,202 new COVID-19 cases, raising the number of infections to 390,053, the Health Ministry said.

Meanwhile, the number of deaths from the virus went up by 52 to 4,971.

RABAT -- Morocco registered 420 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, taking the tally in the North African country to 485,567, the health ministry said in a statement.

The total number of recoveries from COVID-19 in Morocco increased to 471,410 after 477 new ones were added. Enditem
